Pittsburgh gets a solid combination of system and situational support Monday night.
Our NHL database shows that since 2023, home teams with a rest advantage are 684-463 on the moneyline, winning 59.6% of their games for a +4.1% ROI. The sample of 1,147 games makes this considerably more meaningful than a small high-percentage trend, although the modest ROI makes it supporting evidence rather than a standalone reason to bet Pittsburgh.
The scheduling advantage is particularly relevant here. Winnipeg is playing the second half of a road back-to-back after Sunday's 3-2 win at Detroit, while Pittsburgh was idle Sunday after beating Montreal 6-5 in overtime Saturday.
Goaltending strengthens the Pittsburgh case. Stuart Skinner stopped 33 of 35 shots Sunday for Winnipeg, and Clay Stevenson is confirmed to make Monday's start. Stevenson has very limited NHL experience, while Winnipeg remains without Connor Hellebuyck. Pittsburgh should therefore get an opportunity to attack the Jets' goaltending depth at home.
The Penguins have also opened the season with considerable offensive production, scoring 13 goals in their first two games. Evgeni Malkin has scored in both, while Pittsburgh's defensemen have been contributing offensively as well. The Penguins' power play has already produced four goals through two games.
Pittsburgh also has an exceptional historical home profile against Winnipeg, winning 21 of the last 24 meetings in Pittsburgh. We don't give head-to-head history nearly the weight of the current personnel and scheduling situation, but it points in the same direction.
There are reasons not to overrate Pittsburgh's 2-0 start. The Penguins blew a four-goal advantage against Montreal before escaping 6-5 in overtime, and the current sample is far too small for our NHL Luck Gap methodology to carry meaningful weight. Pittsburgh is also missing some personnel, including Bryan Rust and Ryan Graves.
Still, Winnipeg's back-to-back, its downgrade from Skinner to Stevenson in goal, Pittsburgh's rest advantage and the large-sample NHL system all align.

FREE PLAY — ATLANTA +1.5 over NEW ORLEANS — 8:15 ET
Atlanta has the strongest system profile in this matchup. The primary angle says to fade early-season favorites coming off poor previous seasons. That system is 368-269 ATS, 57.8%, for +72.1 units. New Orleans qualifies as the favorite, putting the Falcons on the system side.
There is additional system corroboration based on yards-per-point differential. Teams with a substantially worse yards-per-point margin are 174-116 ATS, 60.0%, +46.4 units with a 14.6% ROI. The road-specific version is 83-45 ATS, 64.8%, +33.5 units with a 23.8% ROI. Neither secondary angle carries enough units to drive the wager independently, but both reinforce the much larger +72.1-unit system.
The personnel matchup provides the strongest fundamental reason to back Atlanta. New Orleans is without linebacker Kaden Elliss and defensive ends Carl Granderson and Anfernee Jennings, while linebacker Pete Werner is questionable. Those losses are concentrated in the front seven against the strength of Atlanta's offense.
Bijan Robinson gives the Falcons a direct way to exploit it. Atlanta has been one of the league's most productive rushing teams, and its outside-zone concepts are particularly well suited to attacking New Orleans. The Saints have struggled badly defending those concepts, creating an opportunity for Atlanta to control the game through Robinson rather than requiring Michael Penix Jr. to carry the offense.
The matchup also gives Penix opportunities when Atlanta throws. New Orleans uses Cover 3 extensively, a coverage against which Penix has produced strong efficiency. The absence of Granderson and Jennings also compromises the Saints' ability to create pressure without committing additional defenders.
Drake London becomes particularly important. His target share with Penix has been substantial, and a successful Robinson-led ground game can force New Orleans to devote additional resources to the box, creating favorable opportunities for London on the perimeter.
New Orleans faces a much more difficult rushing matchup. Atlanta enters allowing only 47.7 rushing yards per game, the best mark in the NFL. The Saints are also without Travis Etienne Jr., removing their leading early-season runner. Alvin Kamara is available, but New Orleans may have difficulty establishing enough conventional rushing success to keep Tyler Shough out of obvious passing situations.
The public information is the primary concern. Atlanta is an underdog receiving the majority of spread tickets. Our worldwide contrarian indexes therefore point toward New Orleans, and a public underdog carries substantially more contrarian significance than an equivalently supported favorite.
The market also opened around Atlanta +2.5 and is now approximately +1.5. We generally prefer fading that type of movement rather than following it. A respected sharp also has a significant position on New Orleans -1.5.
Those are meaningful negatives. However, the +72.1-unit league-wide system, two additional profitable systems and Atlanta's substantial rushing matchup advantage provide enough independent support for a free play.
There is no outdoor weather concern because the game is inside the Superdome.
Play to: ATLANTA +1.5. Pass at pick'em.

Joe Duffy: Grandmaster of Sports Handicapping
For more than three decades, Joe Duffy has been synonymous with winning sports betting advice, carving out a legacy as one of the most respected and innovative handicappers in the industry. Known as the “Grandmaster Sports Handicapper” and CEO of OffshoreInsiders.com, Duffy has built a career on sharp analysis, proprietary systems, and a relentless drive to stay ahead of oddsmakers.
Early Life & Education
Always academically driven, he studied at California University of Pennsylvania, where he excelled in logic, language, and analytical thinking—skills that would become the foundation of his handicapping career. Even in college, Duffy was fascinated by patterns, probability, and statistics, often diving into databases to find edges that others overlooked.
Breaking Into Sports Handicapping
In the 1980s, Duffy began working with the famous scorephone era of sports betting hotlines, quickly earning a reputation for accuracy and insight. His nickname, “The NFL Specialist,” was born during this time, as his dominance in pro football betting separated him from peers. By the late 1980s, Duffy had already built a loyal following of bettors who relied on his plays week after week.
Professional Legacy
In the 1990s, as offshore betting surged, Joe Duffy became a pioneer in bringing high-level handicapping to the digital age. He founded OffshoreInsiders.com, which grew into one of the most trusted brands in sports betting analysis. Through it, he launched Joe Duffy’s Picks, offering premium selections that emphasized:
Wise Guy Plays – Marketed as the strongest bets in gambling, backed by data and contrarian analysis. Named Plays – Proprietary angles and situational systems, such as Bubble Burst Theory, Momentum vs. Regression, and weather-based totals systems. Economy Line – Affordable packages designed for casual bettors, balancing accessibility with winning insight.
Duffy’s systems are built on historical databases, AI integration, computer simulations, and sharp outsourcing. He is known for incorporating data from sources like TeamRankings, Football Outsiders, Prediction Machine, Massey Ratings, Accuscore, KenPom, and FiveThirtyEight, blending commercial analytics with his own proprietary power ratings.
Betting Philosophy & Innovation
Joe Duffy’s philosophy includes contrarian thinking and advanced analytics: identifying when the public and oddsmakers overvalue narratives and exploiting inefficiencies. He often stresses:
Fading public bias when betting percentages and money splits diverge. Exploiting line moves caused by perception rather than sharp action. Leveraging weather, travel, and motivational angles that oddsmakers undervalue. Using lag vs. lead indicators to predict when a team is due for regression or continuation.
His famous line: “I don’t predict the future—I exploit the present market.”
Recognition and Reputation
Duffy is considered by many peers and bettors as the gold standard in NFL preseason betting and among the top long-term winners across all major sports. He has documented winning systems that span thousands of plays, including totals systems, wind-based unders, and dog trends early in the season.
He is widely respected for his transparency, detailed record-keeping, and willingness to educate bettors, not just sell picks. His YouTube, LinkedIn, and podcast content often blends strategy education with premium insights, making him both a teacher and a trusted betting advisor.
Lasting Legacy
With a career spanning from the scorephone days to the AI era, Joe Duffy stands as a bridge between the old-school “gut” handicappers and the modern wave of data-driven bettors. His name has become synonymous with Wise Guy plays, contrarian strategies, and sustained winning, ensuring his place as a true legend in sports handicapping.
